This year I stayed in a new apartment high on the West Cliffs which had fabulous views of the abbey and the sea. As I only had to cross the road and walk down the cliff to access the beach I spent a lot of time wandering about at different times of day looking for patterns and reflections in the sand as well as photographing the waves ricocheting off the sea wall.
Sunrise and sunset were at eminently pleasing times and so I was able to experience both without developing jet lag or a high degree of sleep deprivation. I was also fortunate that the weather was splendid all week providing gorgeous light and colours at both ends of the day. The winter sand is full of water and is like an infinity pool of reflections and areas of foam. It was wonderful.
The conditions were so lovely that I didn’t even get to Saltwick Bay at all. I’ll just have to return and sample another helping of fish and chips.
