Whilst the Isle of Harris is renowned for it's fabulous white sand beaches there are so many other places to visit and photograph. There are mountains along the North Harris border and on Lewis there are many neolithic and historic sites that are really atmospheric and wonderful to explore.
I loved wandering around the standing stones at Callanish especially as I was able to get amongst them and admire the detail and location of the monument. I also went to the Iron House at Bosta and the Blackhouse village at Gearrannan
There were some fabulous views in the mountains and evidence of human habitation over hundreds of years. Whilst it is beutiful the land is rocky and unforgiving and you have to admire the tenacity of people who decide to make a life for themselves in such a harsh environment.
