Presentation Feedback

Many of the clubs to whom I have given presentations have provided some extremely positive and encouraging feedback. Here are a few of the most recent comments:

Many thanks for braving the freezing conditions and coming along to K************ to give us 2 super presentations. The first one had some wonderful images from the power of ferocious waves to the tranquil patterns in the sand, also you shared some really useful tips and information that should enable us to try to produce such images safely and dry. Many of the images from the Lake District were incredible, some of the skies were to die for, I think you were out in such weather conditions at times that most of us would roll over and stay in bed.

Once again many thanks

Just a quick note to thank you for your talk last night.  Your presentation lived up to the high expectations I had having looked at your work on your website.  You clearly showed us how even with the restriction of one type of location, how many different types of images can be created, from the mini details of shells and pebbles to large wide angle seascapes and the variations created by different lighting conditions. The inclusion of the creative techniques of long exposures, minimalism and ICM added additional elements to the artistic pot.

As I mentioned, I think that because people in our local area have some great coastal locations on our doorstep there is a danger that we take it for granted.  I'm sure your presentation last night will have demonstrated the opportunities available and will have inspired our members to get out there and try some of the things you showed us.

Thanks for a great presentation and sharing your wonderful images with us.

Just wanted to say thank you very much for your lecture tonight. I was blown away with the quality of your images. They were beautiful and so artistic. I really appreciated your down to earth approach with detailed and sensible advice. Thank you again.

Just finished watching your talk to our club and wanted to thank you for a most illuminating, varied and inspirational evening. Fantastic images. I can't wait to get out there and be a bit more experimental. Thank you so much.

There were so many memorable captures in Alison’s talk, from gentle shots of seashells being kissed by the tide and dramatic storm waves reaching as high as a lighthouse, through to rocky landscapes and to to-die-for sunsets. What we also loved about this talk was that as well as sensing the sheer power and force of coastal waters, we felt its stillness, serenity and beauty.

And there was everything in between: abstracts, images created by ICM, close-ups, panoramas; and, throughout, we felt a palpable sense of Alison’s passion.

What also appealed to our photographers is that coastal photography calls for such a wide range of disciplines. One needs to know as much about fast shutter speeds as one does long exposures, and one needs to see the possibilities in both wide angle shots and close-ups, making coastal photography such a fascinating challenge.

Overall this was a stimulating talk of great variety and supreme quality from a dedicated and ardent photographer and, as a result, our club is arranging an autumn break on the north Norfolk coast, even though it is 70 miles away!

When fellow photographers are chomping at the bit to get into the great outdoors because of a presentation they've just attended, it's a safe bet that it's been a good session.

Such was the case when Alison Taylor, past president of York Photographic Society, sat in the guest speaker's chair to present her latest talk 'Lakes and Coastal Photography' to members of K************* Camera Club.

Alison's photography demonstrates a deep interest in the use of textures, light, and long exposures. Most of her images have been taken in the north of England and are based around fells, waterfalls, and the sea.

She has a particular love for the sea, often returning to the same location to capture a different mood with waves that lap, surge, and violently crash, and sand patterns that change in a moment with the movement of the water.

Her creativity is in full flow as she stands on the sand looking out to sea and watching its interaction with the shore, noting how the waves draw lines on the beach and create shapes.

The Club chair said the talk had been inspiring and had everyone fired up to get outside shooting outdoors at the earliest opportunity.
