The RPS Landscape and Digital Imaging Groups have been running a joint project including a preliminary talk, a photographic shoot and then feedback with the rest of the group. The topic was coastal photography and of course I signed up.
The visit I selected was to South Gare and Paddy’s Hole as I haven’t been for a few years. Usually there is one other person and a tripod at the location when I visit but on this particular day the whole promontory was rammed with bird watchers looking out for the brown booby that had erroneously made it’s way to the UK from India. If I was venturing so far from home I wouldn’t choose South Gare as my final destination but there is no accounting for what birds do.
I was fortunate to get a chance to see the bird perched on a buoy as someone kindly lent me their binoculars but I have to say that I was happier wandering around Paddy’s Hole and the fishermen’s huts. Here are some of my photographs from the event. There is a brown booby included if you look particularly hard.
The Jennifer is looking sadder than ever and somebody has tied an old tyre to her prow so there is absolutely no chance of escape for her.
