I recently attended an RPS Landscape Group workshop on Creative Woodland Photography. It was run by Mark Banks and was based in a woodland only a few minutes drive from my holiday home in the Yorkshire Dales.
I really enjoyed exploring the landscape especially as woodland photography is very challenging and not my usual genre. There is always so much going on and you have to literally sort out the wood from the trees in order to get effective and interesting compositions.
My favourite aspect of the workshop was looking for low key and high key compositions which emphasise the main subject using extremes of light. Some compositions suit low key and others are best with high key monochrome and post processing is very important in bringing out the key elements of the photograph.
The woodland has some glorious beech trees and Iām really looking forward to revisiting in the Autumn.
